Hi there,

I am Ruby and I am a Level 1 Registered Nurse graduated from University of Technology, Sydney in 2021. I have been working as a nurse since March 2022 and my current position is scrub/scout in intraoperative setting. This portfolio is my tool to keep record of my journey to become and as a registered nurse.

I moved to Sydney, Australia in 2018 to study nursing and completed my study in 2021. After my first year, I started working as a nursing assistant to understand about healthcare environment and experience what it would feel like to work as a nurse. After finishing my study, I moved to Hobart, Tasmania and my graduate job was in a scrub/scout position in a day surgery setting. I did not have previous theatre experience but since I was working in a day surgical setting where they only do minor surgeries, I believe it was a perfect opportunity for me to learn basic theatre nursing skills, develop rapport with surgeons, anesthetists, nurses and managers and practice roles and responsibilities of a scrub and scout nurse.

I have developed this portfolio to keep track of my journey throughout my nursing career and it could also be helpful for anyone who is trying to get started with their own.

GOALS

As a passionate and persistent individual, I enjoy consistent learning and building skills to develop a strong foundation for my professional career. My short term goal in the near future is to enroll in a postgraduate course in Perioperative Nursing. I have researched and enquired about different specialties that I could see myself into, where perioperative nursing has been my major focus.

My long term goal is to become a surgical assistant where I will be focused upon practicing with surgeons in their cases and building my own private practice as a nursing surgical assistant. This page is like a step-ladder for my journeys and experiences that I have stepped on, which will give a brief idea about my nursing career.
